The stat not included above but was shown by TV were the alarming difference in passes. May be it was tactical or Dortmund were at different level, but the end result and the effort was amazing.>br>
Sanchez and the monster Aurier were unbelievable. Great article on Sanchez:

One could see how his presence allows the pass makers Toby and Jan to play better. COYS!

I hope the club appeals against the 2nd yellow for Verts.

Well that was different! Dortmund well and truly tied up Eriksen and basically took him out of the game in the first half, they out muscled Moussa and did to him what he does to other teams. Not sure i subscribe to the comments on the pre-match article that Poch played the waiting game and gave them the ball to play with deliberately, there were times in the first half when we couldn't get the ball off them! At half time poch made us play further up the pitch and that made the battle in the midfield even more congested allowing long balls to be hoisted to allow Kane and Son to run off the shoulder of the last defender. The game should and could have finished 6-5 to them, they out played us in the first half but when you send that many players up the park and flood the last third of your opposing team things are going to happen at the back! If Dortmund play the same tactics back at their place they may come unstuck but if that is what they can produce as a team with 7 key players missing god only knows how good they are going to be with a full first team! Will a 2 goal lead be enough to get us a result at Dortmund? I am not sure! We will have to work very hard to come away with a point and we defo need a point from them and 6 off Nicosia to get through to the knockout stages. Thought Davies played out of his skin Rose has some work to do to get back into the side. Aurier is completely unconventional, his duck under the ball in his own area was outrageous and Sanchez is going to be a shoe in now for the back three which means Wanyama may struggle to get a start if Poch keeps Dier in his preferred position at the base of the diamond or in front of a back four. Still cant believe we won that one, incredible night of unbelievable chances missed and goals that had no right to go in! Nicosia next be interesting to see how Dortmund fez up to Real Madrid a draw between those two could open the door for us! Well done Poch unbelievable result have to take that win now and press on this month and get ourselves top of our group in the CL table and in the top of the Prem .COYS!

The basic philosophy at this stage is to win all your home games and pinch points away. If Dortmund beat us at their place then its back to square one, if we can get a draw then this win becomes very significant. Of course for both us and Dortmund the big question is can we win the home game against Madrid.
14/09/2017 10:38:00
jod, absolutely. I think realistically with three teams fighting to get out of the group, the goal difference may just prove to be vital.
14/09/2017 10:50:00
Pretty much how I saw it OyVeh!!

Verts out for 3 Champions League games. Back 3 Dier,Toby ,Sanchez. Wanyama & Dembele to cover back 3. Or should Foyth be brought in as a centre-back? Get away with it against Cypriot side but Real not so sure. Need a left footed centre back Sanchez or Foyth,I've no idea.

Greavsie its a one match ban for two yellows he'll miss the Nicosia game:

Greavesaboveall - Partly depends on when Wanyama is fit, you don't really want to take Dier out of midfield without Wanyama. There is option of playing Davies on the left of a back three, its his normal position for Wales. Of course that then leaves you with a question mark at left back.

Perhaps the most significant point of the Dortmund game was that we appear to be getting smarter tactically. Pochettino seems to have recognised that he can't always force his game on the opposition and sometimes you have to adapt your game. Harry Kane summed it up pretty well ; "In the Champions League you have to be smart. You can't always press teams on a big pitch. We took advantage on the counter-attack and exploited the space they left in behind." Its something we didn't seem able to do last season and its a sign these players are maturing.

According to the BBC and some other press outlets, Cologne are bringing 20,000 fans to their game at Arsenal tonight. Incredible. Shame in a way though, as it would have been amusing to see the thousands of empty seats at the Emirates on a Thursday night.

Great game, two good teams, 4 great goals what is not to like. Second yellow to Vertonghen soft, there will be worse going unpenalised on every park pitch this Sunday morning, pro football is going soft , you can't tackle, physical contact is frowned on, it's a good job the likes of Dave Mackay are not around in this era, he would never finish a game. If anything the German player was guilty of simulation, his face was barely brushed accidentally and he went down as though he had been shot. Mind you having said all that, the linesmen did us 2 favours chalking off two legitimate goals for off-side.

Both Aurier and Sanchez look like good signings, and we know what Lloriente can do if he is called upon. Following on from the less than successful signings of Sissoko, N'Jie, N'Koudou, and Jansson in recent windows, it looks that at last we are shaping ourselves in the transfer window.
14/09/2017 16:49:00
Totally agree re our transfers this window Frank. And N'Koudou and Sissoko may come good yet. Poch must see something in Sissoko because he would have surely gone this summer otherwise.

What are the odds on Koeman being the next managerial casualty? Everton 3-0 down at half-time and looking even poorer than they were against us.
14/09/2017 18:39:00
This maybe the game that see's Mp become more flexible in his approach setting spurs up to win rather than playing a philosophy. 1st half spurs looked uncomfortable and BD midfield dominance forced spurs to play on the counter. Personally i don't think it was the plan initially to play on the counter that is why spurs looked off the pace in the 1st half. In the 2nd half Spurs set up looked for the counter and created loads of openings, it's the first time under MP spurs have played on the counter consciously, against top teams it's a tactic that spurs will have to employ at times.
14/09/2017 19:18:00
Goes to show possession doesn't win you football matches. Was brilliant to see us actually play some counter attacking football. For me at Wembley against the better teams is the way forward. Son is an important player at Wembely as he is the only attacking player we have that has some pace and can go past players with some ease.

I don't think it was our gameplan to have that little possession, Dortmund were keeping it very well and stiffling us. But the big pleasing thing is the way we adapted to how the pattern of the game went. It's very rare for us under poch to have less possession than a team let a alone winning while having less possession. Adaptability during games is vital if we want to give a good showing of ourselves in this competition.

I suppose the one question about playing on the counter is whether we could do have done it without Son on the pitch. He's the only quick attacking player we have, could we have played effective counter attacking football without him ?
